1. Burkina Faso

Set snugly landlocked in West Africa, Burkina Faso has the highest average temperature in the world. Its extreme heat is a result of a tropical climate and long distance from the ocean. Like five other of the hottest countries, part of the region includes the Sahara Desert.

2. Mali

Mali is another neighboring country in West Africa with soaring temperatures. The middle of the Sahara Desert is enclosed in its borders which makes the scorching heat no surprise. It’s recorded that Mali’s average temperature is 85 degrees.

3. Aruba

Sitting in the Caribbean Sea, this small island country is a hot paradise. It’s known as a holiday destination with its turquoise waters and sandy beaches. You’ll be thankful it’s surrounded by swimmable water when temperatures soar up to 90 degrees in the summer.

4. Senegal

This westmost country in West Africa is situated next to the Atlantic. You’ll be grateful for sea breezes as it sits in the hottest continent. Unlike most of its desert neighbors, Senegal is bordered on the east and north by the Senegal River.

5. Mauritania

Deserts are well known for their unbearable dry heat. Mauritania is in Northwest Africa and the Sahara covers 90% of it. Its average is only a degree cooler than Burkina Faso at 84 degrees–– you couldn’t feel the difference.

6. Tokelau (New Zealand)

New Zealand claims this tiny island territory between the mainland and Hawaii in the southern Pacific Ocean. With a population of 1,500 people, it is one of the smallest in the world and is mostly accessed by boat. With a quick walk to the surrounding ocean, it doesn’t take long to cool off with a dip.

7. Tuvalu

Not too far from Tokelau, this island country is in the Polynesian subregion in Oceania. The country is made up of nine hot islands drenched in sunlight, three of which are reefs. It’s a scuba diver’s paradise with its lowest temperature being 77 degrees.

8. Djibouti

Nestled in the Horn of Africa, Djibouti has a landscape of dry shrublands, magma-filled volcanoes, and a sandy beach coastline. With summer temperatures between 85-107 degrees, you’ll be looking for some shade.

9. Curaçao

Its tropical blue waters flowing with marine life attract vacationers worldwide. Curacao is a Dutch Caribbean island with temperatures like a Dutch oven. A few dips into the gentle waves are a welcome escape from the 90 degree heat.

10. Gambia

As the fifth African country to make the hottest 10 list, The Gambia’s heatwaves pack a punch. Averaging 83 degrees each year, it’s a relief to have a bit of the Atlantic coastline and the large Gambia River.

1. Greenland

It was once reported in the 90s that the lowest ever recorded temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was -93.3 degrees, and that was in Greenland. The frigid island is owned by Denmark and ice covers 75% of the land.

2. Canada

The Great White North didn’t get its name for no reason. With most of the population nestled next to the southern border, much of the land is full of snow most of the year. The Canadian Arctic covers 40% of the territory which explains its freezing average temperatures.

3. Russia

Grab your fluffy ushanka–– as the largest country in the world, Russia covers a lot of frozen ground. Parts of the country may experience hot summers but you can expect heavy snowfalls in the winters. With an average temperature of 25 degrees, prepare to dress warmly most of the year.
